Overall, I’m in love

Overalls are clearly having a very trendy moment but I just can’t resist! I’ve already proclaimed my love for anything one-piece (jumpsuits, rompers, etc.) and am a longtime dress-lover, so overalls are just a natural extension of those lazy style leanings, right?!

I recently grabbed a pair from Zara (duh) and wore them out for drinks last week. It goes without saying that I felt equal parts comfy toddler and saucy sex kitten. Next up: shorteralls for summer. Obviously.

True blue

Image

I really hoped this magical pale blue mohair honey would have been included in the Zara Boxing Day sale (aka. the most wonderful time of the year), but alas, it was not. I did score the much-coveted plaid topper I lusted after many times on this here blog, thanks to my shopping consultant/enabler/bestie Ziz, so not quite nursing a broken fashion heart. Hope the sales were good to you!

Very pin-teresting

In other “borrowed from the boys” styling tips, I’m loving the pinstriped outerwear in these street style snaps. The classic menswear staple contrasted by a red lip, a thigh high boot or a shock of bleach blond hair take the pinstripe overcoat from business serious to sexy. No surprise, some of the usual suspects frequently carry affordable versions (try this and this on for size).

The shopping (baby) blues

Image

Image

Since Zara’s singular mission in life is to make me want to shop and covet items I absolutely never knew I needed (I obviously need a baby blue mohair coat, how did I not realize this before??!!), of course they come out guns blazing just weeks before Christmas with the most perfect baby blue stunner. Needless to say, I’m in love and not only would this gem look fab with so many outfits I’m concocting in my mind, but wouldn’t powder blue also look so darling hanging in my closet next to my cute pink coat? Now I’m colour matching in my closet…Zara has sent me to new depths of fash-insanity.

It seems the whole world has gone mad for plaid and I’m on board. Since I satisfied my obsession for a pastel pink coat, I’ve moved onto searching for the perfect plaid topper. In news that can be filed under “surprising to no one”, Zara has a couple of amazing options here, here and here.  Aaaaaaand you can snag that gorgeous burgundy and white plaid coat in the 6th image at Topshop. (You’re welcome).

Admitting you have a problem…

Image

They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem….well, I have to come clean about my addiction to pink coats. I already have one (this little bouclé number from Zara a couple years back) and am obsessing over a lighter, dustier, soft pink version. The much-blogged about Club Monaco iteration is lovely in person but not worth the almost $400 price tag. Is it back to mecca Zara we go?

Fall wishlist (part 1)

For Fall, I’m craving simple pointed pumps in unexpected neutrals like navy or sky blue, coats in muted candy shades, lots of leather (including the long-coveted Rag and Bone Newbury boots), grunge-approved florals and strong accessories. My affection for chapeaus lives on well into fall as well.

Let’s be honest, I’ll end up buying most of my items from wallet-friendly Zara but a gal can dream…

The long and short of it

Image

If you’ve ever pondered “what goes best with a midi-length wide-stripe pencil skirt?”, I bet your answer was not “why yes, a cropped bra top and pointy flats!” but this street style maverick has thrown out the rule book. Sometimes, it might seem wrong but looks so right.

I’ve been stalking these Zara lace-up heels online for several weeks now, waiting for them to appear in our woefully under-stocked Montreal downtown store. Certainly I’m not the only one enamored with how closely they honour the infamous editor-beloved Alaïas that have wooed us for countless fashion seasons?

I was thisclose to pulling the trigger online when I spotted them in store late last week. A quick try-on revealed I needed a size smaller than I normally take at Zara and the rest is history!
